At the weekend, Sport reported Manchester United and Barcelona are in a very advanced talks over a deal for Frenkie de Jong.
On Monday, the same newspaper stated the Red Devils are clear the midfielder will choose them this summer. This was also echoed in the English press.
Claims made in the UK are relayed in today’s Sport, who then provide more insight on this case. Their title reads: ‘De Jong negotiates with United’.
Within the report, it’s said the 25-year-old has accepted to leave the Camp Nou if there is an agreement that satisfies all parties. The ex-Ajax man’s stance is ‘valued as positive’, so it could be considered the agreement may be close.
The report adds De Jong’s aspirations need to be fulfilled. Therefore, his representatives would already be working with both clubs. The Netherlands international is now open to the idea of reuniting with Ten Hag, to become the leader of United’s midfield.
At the club level, they want to find an agreement over a fee that is considered acceptable for both parties. Barcelona and United want to close the operation as soon as possible.
With De Jong giving his approval, Sport suggest the deal can ‘advance faster from now on’. The English club are hoping to have the player for their pre-season trip to Bangkok and Australia next month.
They end their report by stating: ‘Frenkie seems ready for a change of scenery and heading to Manchester.’
Another report from today’s Sport explains that United will pay close to €80m fee for the Dutchman.
They further add that in the negotiations for bonuses, the definitive agreement is being cleared up so that De Jong can end up at Old Trafford this summer.
