Defender Issa Kaboré is ‘no longer a Benfica player’ and has returned to Manchester City from his loan spell at the Portuguese side.

That’s according to Record, who reports that the defender has been sent back to Etihad after a ‘re-evaluation’ between Manchester City and Benfica.

The newspaper reports that Kaboré has already returned to Manchester United, with the loan deal signed in the summer including a clause for it to be ended in January if all parties wished for that to be the case.

The two clubs have talked about the situation, and it was decided by both clubs that the best path for the player would be to immediately end the loan deal.

The 23-year-old missed training at Benfica’s Seixal training ground on Wednesday and has returned to Manchester City, who need to make a decision about what happens next.

Kaboré had managed just seven matches for Benfica this season totalling 193 minutes after arriving on loan from the Premier League champions in the summer transfer window.

Reports over the last few months had indicated that the Portuguese side were considering ending Kaboré’s loan as he was not a part of their plans and that has now been made official.
