Sergio Reguilón has found himself ‘ostracised’ by Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham, with a move in the January transfer window now desperately needed.

That’s according to Marca, who look at the player today and how he has not played a signing minute this season after returning to north London.

The newspaper say that the time when Reguilón was the emerging talent at Real Madrid under Santiago Solai, winning the Europa League with Sevilla and becoming a full international is now long gone.

He has been ‘ostracised’ by Postecoglou, failing to manage a single minute this season after spells on loan at Manchester United and Brentford last season.

His career has been characterised by ‘volatility’, with loan spells at Atlético Madrid and Manchester United not working out. He then joined Brentford, who seemed to like him but then happily sent him back to Tottenham at the end of last season.

He was ‘remarkable’ with the Bees but that was not enough to convince Postecoglou, who left him out of Tottenham’s pre-season tour. He did the same to Bryan Gil and Giovani Lo Celso but while both of those left, Reguilón remained, determined to fight for a place.

Now, the situation has become ‘dramatic’. He’s no longer just the only player without minutes, he’s also not even being called up to squads. His last time on the pitch was Brentford’s clash with Newcastle on 19 May.

It’s a ‘strange situation’ given Destiny Udogie is the only pure left-back in the Tottenham squad, although Ben Davies has played there before too.

The clear thing is that he is not a part of Tottenham’s plans, and the idea is to ‘find a way out’ in the January transfer window, six months before his contract comes to an end. The ball is in Reguilón’s court as he looks to save a ‘blank season’.
