Raul Jimenez has started all four of Wolves’ Premier League matches so far, scoring a goal along the way.
It’s a big change for the striker after he struggled to be a starter at both Benfica and Atletico Madrid. For the past two seasons, the Mexican managed a combined 12 starts in the Portuguese league, and he only got four in his season with the Spanish club.
The faith Nuno Espirito Santo has been showing is a boost, but Jimenez must know he needs to have a good goal output if he’s to continue as a starter.
Then, Wolves may consider signing him permanently from Benfica, although likely not for the €38m clause they have with the Lisbon club.
Prominence at domestic level leads to the same at national level and, currently away with the Mexico squad, Jimenez has been speaking to the media about his aims.
El Universal quote the Wolves player as saying: “I feel happy and excited to be showing myself in England. I have the minutes I always looked for and it’s up to me to continue in the starting eleven of my team. I know it’s difficult but I have the ability to be that reference player.”
The 27 year old is considered one of the most experienced players in the Mexico squad and said he’s trying to convey a need to his teammates to bring their club form to the national set-up.
