On Monday and Tuesday, Catalan newspaper Sport went big with a story saying Barcelona have decided to sign Hector Bellerin next summer and are already working on the idea.
Barcelona were said to have learned Arsenal planned to start contract negotiations with Bellerin during October, and so they’ve made moves to let the player know they’d rather he rejected the extension proposals.
If he does, Sport think that will be a sign Barcelona can move for a deal next summer… with the Catalan media thinking €35m is fair.
That’s the idea anyway.
On Wednesday, Sport went surprisingly quiet on the idea, but on Thursday they’re back on it. Aleix Vidal is apparently going through an ‘ordeal’ at the club, knowing full well he’s not part of Luis Enrique’s plans, and obviously not oblivious to the Bellerin reports.
Vidal is being left completely out of the picture at the moment, and it’s hard to see a way back in for the Spaniard. Sport mention Sergi Roberto in passing, but don’t say why Barcelona need Bellerin as well.
Sergi Roberto has been hugely, and correctly, praised for his performances at right back and unless the club see him playing elsewhere on the pitch, the whole Arsenal chase seems a bit much.
