Mikel Merino is back in Spain after a holiday to New York, and there’s a lot of confidence from Mundo Deportivo that he’s moving to Real Sociedad.

The Spanish newspaper go with a headline saying ‘Mikel Merino will play at Real’ which shows how far along the line they believe things are for the Newcastle United transfer.

It’s stated Merino has given his ‘yes’ to the La Liga club and will sign a five year contract to enable his return to Spain.

As for a transfer fee, Mundo Deportivo say Real Sociedad will now discuss the details with Newcastle, but it’s thought a deal can be done between €10-12m.

To display their confidence in the deal further, it’s stated that nobody involved in the process, that’s buying, selling and the player, believes there won’t be ‘white smoke’ appearing soon.

Merino arrived at Newcastle United last summer from Borussia Dortmund.

The midfielder’s move was initially on loan but a permanent option was soon taken up. At that time it would have been unthinkable for the player to leave the following summer, especially for €10-12m, but if Mundo Deportivo are correct that’s what will be happening.
