Brazilian right-back Wallace Oliveira is set to return to Chelsea after a one-and-a-half-year loan spell at Grêmio.

As reported by UOL today, the player is being released back to Chelsea by the Brazilian side a few days before the end of the contract, because he couldn’t impress there.

Wallace’s deal should be running until next Friday, and Grêmio even have an important Copa do Brasil game tonight, but he was never expected to be part of the squad.

The 23-year-old has been training with the reserve squad for months now, and is still to make an official appearance in 2017.

Wallace was signed by Chelsea from Fluminense in 2013. He was immediately loaned back to the Brazilian club, and also played for Inter Milan, Vitesse and Carpi in the past few years, but never had a chance to enter the pitch for the Blues.

Sport Witness can confirm the player is flying to London today and should have an update on his situation at the club soon.
