In news that shocked the footballing world on Sunday night (not really), Leicester City made a €3m offer for Marseille’s Bouna Sarr.
Unfortunately for Claude Puel, the Ligue 1 side didn’t feel the amount was enough, and politely declined the Foxes’ bid for the 25-year-old right-winger.
The news was first broken by RMC Sport, and L’Equipe have a follow up article in their Monday edition, acknowledging their counterpart’s work in the matter, but adding some extra information of their own.
The French newspaper explain Leicester are expected to come back with a new offer in the coming days for the forward turned right-back, and it’s this reconversion to a more defensive role that has allegedly seduced Claude Puel enough to try and bring him to King Power Stadium.
Down the player’s end, Bouna Sarr is said to be flattered by the attention he’s getting, but won’t be trying to force an exit, pleased with his situation in the south of France.
That doesn’t mean he wouldn’t be against a move to the Premier League, but he’s just happy to let the clubs sort it out between themselves prior to making a decision.
It will be interesting to see how much Marseille end up wanting for Sarr, as, despite not being the most highly rated player, the French side are quite short of depth in the full-back position, and aren’t exactly keen on weakening themselves ahead of an important second half of the season.
Our bet is they’ll only accept an amount that would allow them to comfortably buy a replacement on short notice.
