Raphinha left Leeds United and completed a move to Barcelona in the summer window.
The Brazil international fought hard to get his Barca move, and turned down offers from Chelsea, Arsenal and a few other clubs in order to seal a move to the Camp Nou.
The ex-Leeds star registered his first assist in Barca’s 4-0 win over Real Valladolid at the end of August. He then scored his first goal for the Catalan club in the following match against Sevilla, and this saw multiple claims about what a bargain the club had got from Leeds United.
Since then, the winger has failed to score a goal or register an assist in all competitions. He struggled to impress in Barca’s Champions League loss to Inter Milan earlier this week.
Writing in his column for Mundo Deportivo, journalist Xavier Bosch states the 25-year-old has had a ‘disturbing slump with the ball at his feet’.
After shining in the first few matches the Catalan club, ‘little by little’, the South American has been ‘fading alarmingly’. Bosch claims the player seems ‘drowned’ on the right wing, while Xavi Hernández has other options for the left side of the attack.
“Those dry and distant shots seem to have disappeared from his catalogue, his Neymar-like dribbles that amazed us in the summer have withered in the autumn, those boisterous Malcom-like starts were never heard of again,” says Bosch.
“There are no breaking runs, constantly being offered as before, and the successful dribbling rate is very poor. Since his return [from international break], he appears more subdued and without a spark.”
It may early to criticise the Brazilian, but he needs to step up soon in order to make his mark at the Camp Nou.
