Jakub Moder has explained that he needed to leave Brighton and Hove Albion in the January transfer window as he needed to join a club where he could show his real potential.
The Polish midfielder has been speaking to NOS after making a flying start to life at Feyenoord since the move two months ago.
He arrived at the Dutch club from Brighton in a €1.5m towards the end of the January window, bring an end to a five year stay with the Seagulls.
He had joined them in an €11m deal from Lech Posen in 2020 and was considered a star for the future but never found his feet on the south coast, making just 71 appearances for them in total.
That was largely due to a cruciate ligament injury suffered in 2022 which saw him spend 576 days on the treatment table and miss 93 games for club and country.
Brighton ultimately moved on without him, continuing their development and seeing other players step and leave Moder on the fringes looking in.
It is that which led to his move in January, with him insisting that he needed to find a club where he could show his potential.
“I needed a change in my career,” he said.
“I had to go to a club where I could show my real potential again. That is possible at Feyenoord. I have been warmly welcomed by everyone at the club.”
