Having reportedly agreed to sign for Nottingham Forest when his contract at Palmeiras comes to an end, Gustavo Scarpa wants to play in Europe.
He chose Steve Cooper’s side as the location to start that step in his career, and while nothing appears to have been confirmed to date, the media in Brazil are rather confident about it.
They’ve even reported that Palmeiras tried to pay money to make him turn his back on the move, but Scarpa’s decision to head to Nottingham Forest was set, and we’ll have to wait and see what comes from it.
In the meantime, the very versatile player, who has featured pretty much everywhere in midfield for the Brazilian club, has continued to be in fine form for his club.
Nosso Palestra have an article on the player on Tuesday, pointing out that he is now the ‘assist leader’ in the league, with 11 to his name to date.
This isn’t the first time he’s been in this position either, as they point out he was the league’s top assist man in 2016 and 2017 with Fluminense and in 2021 with his current team.
They add that ‘in the overall history of the Campeonato Brasileiro’ in its current format (meaning since 2006), the Nottingham Forest-bound player has 57 assists, which puts him in fourth place, tied with Giorgian de Arrascaeta, currently at Flamengo.
They then mention the Tricky Trees, saying Scarpa has ‘already closed with Nottingham Forest’, and he will leave the club ‘at the end of the season’, which is at the end of the calendar year.
All in all, they point out he has played 225 games for Palmeiras, scoring 40 goals and assisting another 51, which just gives you an idea of the type of player Steve Cooper will be acquiring.
