It appears that Brentford are very close to signing Hákon Valdimarsson from Elfsborg in the coming days, with important steps already taken.
This comes from Göteborgs Posten, who relay news from Expressen, stating that Brentford and the Swedish side have agreed on a fee of SEK40m, around €3.5m, for the young goalkeeper.
They explain that it seems Brentford will be the Iceland international’s ‘next club’, and the price tag would make him the most expensive goalkeeper of all time to leave the Allsvenskan.
Not only that, but Expressen have reported the player has already travelled to England on Wednesday, where he underwent the standard medical examination.
Therefore, ‘if nothing unexpected happens, he is ‘expected to sign his contract shortly’ with Brentford, allowing him to discover a new league.
Interestingly enough, this all comes amid some frustration from Thomas Strakosha, who recently made it clear he wasn’t happy with how things were going with the Bees in an interview with Gianluca Di Marzio.
Valdimarsson has made 49 appearances for Elfsborg since signing in 2021, conceded 40 goals and kept 21 clean sheets.
