Despite a few days of doubts because of a rather mouthy and flirty agent, Newcastle United appear to be on the verge of signing Valentino Lazaro.
Both Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport are reporting the very same news, claiming the Austria international is expected in England on Friday to undergo his medical ahead of the move.
The former of the two bid him farewell with a very Italian ‘Ciao ciao Lazaro’ in their newspaper edition, and state the agreement with Newcastle is ‘practically done’ as he will move to St James’ Park in a loan with a view to buy worth around €25m.
That allows Inter to make their money back on a transfer that simply hasn’t worked out for them.
Over at Corriere dello Sport, we’re given a few more details about the fee, as the newspaper report Newcastle will pay the Serie A side €1.5m up front for the loan and will have the possibility of signing the player permanently at any time for €23.5m.
It’s not a compulsory one (as far as we can tell), so there’s a chance Lazaro could return to the San Siro if things don’t work out in the north of England, but that’s not what Steve Bruce will be wanting.
He’s highlighted the versatile player for a reason, and that’s for him to be a success at St James’ Park.
