On Wednesday there were reports from the English media that Lucas Perez could be off to Schalke. That hasn’t really gained strength in Germany and the reason could be because the player isn’t keen on the move.
Once again, the striker is looking for a return to Spain, and West Ham find themselves in the same situation Arsenal have been in before.
Pressure is being put on to allow Perez to return to La Liga, and with this player it sometimes feels that’s always the plan, regardless of who he signs a permanent contract with.
Betis are the Spanish club likeliest right now and their local newspaper Estadio Deportivo report the club are hurrying to make the signing.
They reference the Schalke claims, and say the Bundesliga side are willing to pay the €4m West Ham want, but the player is set against that move.
Tottenham’s Vincent Janssen is also an option for Betis, but Perez is first choice.
Betis are said to be willing to raise their loan offer and purchase option amount, and the player is ‘doing everything’ to get the move.
It’s a tricky situation for the Hammers, how long do they push for an alternative before giving in?
