Davide Calabria came up through the ranks of AC Milan’s academy before being promoted to their first team in 2015.

Over the past few years, the 22-year-old has improved his game and is now the first choice right-back for the Serie A outfit.

This term, he has made 27 starts in all competitions for the Rossoneri and his good performance for his club and Italy U21s have not gone unnoticed, if the reports are to be believed.

Calciomercato claims the defender has especially ‘enticed’ clubs from the Premier League – Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur – who have already conducted ‘first polls’ for the player.

Any approach for the right-back won’t be easy.

It’s claimed Milan have ‘clear ideas’ for Calabria as their view him as a player for the present and the future. Their chiefs, Leonardo and Paolo Maldini, are ready to ‘armour’ him by offering the fullback a new deal at the end of the season.

Calabria’s current deal at the San Siro runs down in 2022 and he’s earning €1.1m net per season. Milan’s idea is to offer him an extension that will see his wages also improve.

It is key for Manchester United to bring in a new right-back in the summer, especially taking into account that Antonio Valencia will leave Old Trafford, while Matteo Darmian could be sold in the summer.

These claims feel a lot like trying to hype the player up for an Italian audience.
