Franco Baldini is set to take up a role overseeing transfers at AS Roma, and part of his job will be solving the future of Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

The player was loaned to Roma from Arsenal at the beginning of this season, and has impressed enough to make the Italian side want to keep him for longer.

Wanting to keep costs down on transfers, Corriere dello Sport report Roma had originally wanted to loan the Gunners player for a further season, which would have seen him extend his contract at Arsenal for a further year.

However, this ‘makes no sense’ to Arsenal, who don’t want to commit themselves longer to the 31 year old and would prefer a permanent sale in the next window.

Roma are bending to this, and Baldini will have to find a deal which suits the Premier League club, because they’re clearly not budging on their stance.

That’s where Justin Kluivert comes in, with that card set to be ‘played on the table’.

Corriere state the Dutch forward ‘could end up at Arsenal’ this summer, and it sounds like Roma would rather have Mkhitaryan next season than Kluivert.

Arsenal would be expected to add some millions in a swap deal.
