Barcelona are subsequently admirers and on the front page of Mundo Deportivo, it’s once again claimed the Argentina international is viewed as a potential successor to Luis Suárez, who will turn 34 in January.

The La Liga winners are aware their next major investment should be signing a new No 9 and the Nerazzurri striker emerges ‘with more force every day’ as a potential signing.

He scored in his side’s Champions League defeat at Camp Nou and Mundo states the 22-year-old has already demonstrated that he has qualities to become one of the most decisive strikers in the world for the next decade.

The South American has a €111m release clause in his contract, but Barca view him as a player who’s worth investing in. That’s because he fits the profile the Spanish champions are looking to bring to the club.

Martínez’s technical qualities, coupled with his goalscoring abilities and versatility of playing in the wide positions makes him an interesting option for Ernesto Valverde’s side. He is being constantly monitored by Barcelona and the reports have so far been positive.
