First, let’s have a little recap: Sunday morning saw reports from both Mundo Deportivo and Sport insisting that Tottenham and Barcelona are close to agreeing a deal for Ilaix Moriba.
The transfer would be worth around €15m plus bonuses, and the remaining issue for Spurs was agreeing a deal with the player’s entourage. They already have some sort of agreement with RB Leipzig, over a move now or next summer, and there’s been insinuations agent commissions from the German club are high.
Moriba himself was said to have been tempted by a move to Tottenham.
Now Sport and Mundo Deportivo both turn up again, and it’s bad news for Spurs.
Sport say Moriba has ‘ruled out’ the London club, having listened to their financial and sporting proposal. He believes he’d been guaranteed minutes at Leipzig and would also get to play Champions League football.
Mundo Deportivo say Moriba has told Barcelona he ‘only wants to join Leipzig’.
He doesn’t want to sign for Tottenham, and right now it’s either Leipzig during this window, or the same club next year on a free transfer.
