While Newcastle United might have reached an agreement with Stade de Reims regarding the transfer of Hugo Ekitike, the player’s isn’t all that thrilled about the idea of moving to the north of England.

It was reported last Wednesday evening that the Magpies had convinced the Ligue 1 side to accept their offer for the young striker, said to be €36m with €10m in bonuses on top of that.

This was then backed up the next day, but there has been little said on the matter since, and that appears to be because Newcastle are struggling to convince the 19-year-old.

This comes from Goal France reported Marc Mechenoua, who was speaking on the France Bleu podcast 100% PSG La Tribune.

Talking about the types of signings that Paris Saint-Germain could make, with a reported interest in Ekitike, the journalist said: “I’ve seen that he’s being sent to Newcastle. That’s not true. He doesn’t want to go.”

This was then backed up by another guest on the podcast, who said: “What’s certain is that there isn’t an agreement between Ekitike and Newcastle.”

So that gives you an idea of the task faced by the Magpies, who might have a lot of money to play around with, but remain a team without European football (for now), and who could struggle to bring in youngsters, especially if they aren’t planning on playing them straight away.

Something to keep an eye on.
