The little use that Chelsea has been making of Saul Niguez this season continues being a topic in the Spanish media, where there’s disappointment, if not complete surprise, at his lack of minutes in the Premier League so far.
Marca now features a story on the situation, wondering what will be of the midfielder’s future.
They managed to learn that Saul does not hide from his close environment that his decision to move to Chelsea was ‘perhaps wrong’, as he can’t convince Thomas Tuchel to use him more.
Still, it’s claimed that the player is generally happy with his ‘English adventure’, as he knows how much the experience will add to this game, and plans to continue in London until the end of his loan. That’s why he now has a battle to prove himself to the manager in the coming months.
Since joining Chelsea in the summer, Saul had five appearances for the club. Two in EFL Cup games, one at the end of a Champions League clash against Malmo and two others in the Premier League. One of them was in the opening fixture against Aston Villa, and the other was coming on for only two minutes in a match versus Newcastle United in late October.
Marca recalls that recent rumours from Catalonia said Saul could be an option for Xavi at Barcelona next summer, but focus on the fact that until then he must sort his situation out at the Stamford Bridge.
That means a battle every day to show Tuchel he should be given more opportunities.
For now, Saul seems up for the challenge.
