Earlier in January, Chelsea allowed Alvaro Morata to join Atletico Madrid on an 18-month loan deal and the latter have an option to make the striker’s transfer permanent next summer.

As part of the deal, the Europa League winners have an option to recall the former Real Madrid man this summer.

Thursday’s edition of AS claims the west London club’s transfer ban may change their plans and there is a possibility they could use that recall option.

Morata’s ‘intention’ is clear. He wants to continue at the Wanda Metropolitano and has already made it known he doesn’t want to listen to the option of him returning to Stamford Bridge.

Should the Blues exercise the option to bring Morata back to the club, then Los Rojiblancos will have no choice but to activate the option to sign the Spain international on a permanent deal for €55m.

This could jeopardise the La Liga side’s plans for this transfer window. AS explains the priority of Diego Simeone’s side now is to ‘reach a pact’ with Chelsea so that they do not exercise the option to take Morata for the next season.

Time should tell if the Premier League side will accept Atletico’s demand, but threatening to use the clause is a good way of getting some money in… not that Chelsea can spend it at this stage.
