Serge Aurier left Tottenham Hotspur as his contract expired in June, with both the Frenchman and Spurs deciding it was best if they continue on different paths.

Since then there’s been repeat claims about the fullback’s future, with him able to pick his next club and move as a free agent. The links have been very widespread, with interest claimed from the Premier League, Serie A and Turkish football.

Over the past week or so there’s even been reports of possible Real Madrid interest, although that seemed unlikely.

Now L’Equipe report that months after his Tottenham exit, Aurier is now ‘discussing the final details of a contract’. That deal is to join Villarreal.

The Spanish club are managed by Unai Emery, who worked with Aurier at PSG, and will know all the good and bad sides of the player he’s set to secure.

Aurier won’t be able to register for the Champions League for the first half of the season.
