Polish defender Jarosław Jach has detailed the ‘big differences’ he experienced at Crystal Palace last season when Patrick Vieira replaced Roy Hodgson at the club.
The defender had been at Crystal Palace since 2018, when he arrived in a €2.75m deal from Zagłębie Lubin.
He would make just one appearance the club in the intervening years, instead spending more time with the U21’s and on loan spells with the likes of Rizespor, FC Sheriff, Rakow and Fortuna Sittard.
Departing on a free transfer this summer, he was one of many to leave Selhurst Park as part of the continued overhaul under Vieira.
The French boss has been making big changes at the club since he arrived to replace Hodgson last summer and that has seen drastic changes in style and playing squad.
Jach got to experience that for a year before leaving Crystal Palace and has now detailed the differences between both bosses in a conversation with Sportowy-Poznan.
“Yes, there were definitely big differences when you compare working with Roy Hodgson and Patrick Vieira,” he told them.
“Roy Hodgson paid more attention to the defensive side of things, to defensive behaviour and how we recover after losing the ball, and in the offensive side he let the players loose, relying on their individual skills.
“Vieira, on the other hand, came with a modern concept of football, where every attack wants to play out from the back.
“Actions are supposed to be built by the whole team, and every player on the pitch is a vital element in creating goal situations. I think Patrick Vieira has brought more control to the offensive when it comes to Crystal Palace players.
“In many of the early games this reflected badly on the scoring, because there were losses in crucial parts of the pitch.
“On the other hand, he has not changed this concept and I think that over these two or three years the London club has taken a significant step forward in terms of tactical skills on the offensive.”
