For a period, albeit a short one, it felt like Santiago Giménez to Nottingham Forest could become a real thing. There was a mixture of pessimism and optimism coming from both Mexico and the Netherlands, but Feyenoord quite fancying the big transfer fee was seen as something which could tip things over the edge as long as Forest went high enough.
Then Giménez himself appeared to pull the plug on things, along with his agent. That angered some in the Dutch media who thought the forward was aiming too high and should just grasp his Premier League opportunity.
Voetbal International today bring quotes from Feyenoord manager Brian Piske, who was asked about the player and whether he’ll now be staying in Rotterdam.
Before that, Voetbal International stated Giménez is ‘definitely not moving to Nottingham Forest’ and then quote Priske as saying: “I have no idea. I hope he stays with us. But as long as the transfer window is open, it is naive to expect everyone to stay on board. Football is football, you never know. But the closer we get to the deadline, the better we can see the skeleton of the team. Santiago is fully motivated to play here and do his best.”
Nottingham Forest trying again is clearly thought to be an unlikely scenario at this stage.
