Santos youngster Deivid Washington is picking Chelsea over AS Monaco, according to reports from Brazil.
UOL journalist Bruno Andrade writes that the centre-forward finally took a decision and will accept the Blues bid.
Chelsea this week offered €15m plus €5m in bonuses for the signing. Monaco had a preference option over him, and were told by Santos that they could match the bid.
It’s now claimed by UOL that Deivid Washington already accepted the Blues’ six-year contract, with an automatic renewal for an extra year. He’s set to earn more money than what he would have done in France.
Now it remains to be seen whether Chelsea will make any use of him or loan him out, as they just did with Angelo, who also arrived from Santos.
Deivid Washington is just 18 years old and only had 16 appearances for the first team.
He’s clearly a youngster on the rise and definitely not ready to be a regular starter, so it would indeed make more sense for the Blues to let him get more experience elsewhere. Reports from Brazil already said he should be on his way to Strasbourg as well.
