Lille midfielder Amadou Onana has ‘cut short’ negotiations with West Ham United because he wants to join Everton.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who provides an update on the developing race for the midfielder’s signature.

West Ham had been chasing the Belgian for much of the summer and appeared close to getting their man after making a bid to Lille.

However, Everton have suddenly entered the race for the 20-year-old, with it reported that they’ve managed to convince him to join them over the Hammers.

Tavolieri backs that up somewhat, explaining that Onana has ‘cut short any negotiations’ with West Ham for the time being.

They had offered the player contract terms but these were deemed not “conducive to the player’s development”. The journalist offers that as a direct quote, so we’ll have to assume it has come from his agents.

He again states that the player wants to join Everton this summer, so it appears they are now at the front of the queue.

Quite why their offer is better than West Ham’s remains to be seen but we’re sure that information will turn up sooner rather than later give the slew of details from France and Belgium that have been steadily appearing since last night.
