A week ago, Mundo Deporitvo reported Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani is keen to join Barcelona and he ‘would love to wear’ their shirt.

On Thursday, we covered claims made by El Chiringuito the La Liga side have called the player’s agent to learn about the striker’s situation at Old Trafford.

The Uruguay international is one of four players on the front page of today’s Mundo Deportivo.

Cavani will turn 35 years of age next February. His age has not put off the Catalan club from signing him. They looked at him in the summer, but ended up opting for Luuk de Jong, whose signing was a personal request made by Ronald Koeman.

What is in favour the 34-year-old to arrive at Barca are his qualities, experience of playing at the highest level in Italy, France and England, and his contract at United, which will expire next June.

According to Mundo, the South American would arrive at Barca next summer with ‘extra motivation’  because he ‘wants more prominence’, in order to make it to the 2022 World Cup with Uruguay.

Cavani is restricted to only eight appearances this season. The Premier League side sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and appointed Ralf Rangnick as interim manager until the end of the season.

In the event the former Napoli star’s situation doesn’t change under Rangnick, Cavani ‘could force himself to leave’ Manchester United in January.

Barca are keen to sign the Red Devils striker next summer, when he will be a free agent.

Mundo, however, adds that if Cavani can leave United next month, then the ‘door is not closed’ for him to arrive at the Camp Nou.
