On Saturday, we covered claims from France which stated Ernest Nuamah was one step away from joining Everton, with the Toffees working to add the Lyon player to David Moyes’ squad this month.

Lyon lost 2-1 to Brest on Sunday and Nuamah was in the French club’s squad. The 21-year-old didn’t start the match but came on to try and help Lyon get something from it.

Given he played, there was clearly no agreement in place with Everton at that time.

Le Progres, local to Lyon, reported on Sunday that Nuamah ‘could well be transferred to Everton in the coming days’, but again there was nothing suggesting an agreement is in place and their information appeared to relate to earlier claims from elsewhere.

There’s every chance Everton identified this signing prior to appointing David Moyes for his second spell with the club, and things have somewhat paused since.

Lyon need to sell players so if the Toffees return then they have a reasonable chance of sealing a deal for the right winger this month.
