Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has identified Sydney Van Hooijdonk as a target and wants to bring the Bologna player to Celtic Park in the winter market.

On Friday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the 23-year-old will leave the Serie A side this month and Brendan Rodgers could get his man.

Celtic’s interest in the forward is further backed up 1000 Cuori Rossoblu, when discussing the players who could leave the Italian club.

It’s claimed Brendan Rodgers’ side and Werder Bremen have shown interest in him, but there’s ‘nothing concrete yet’. Therefore, the Dutchman could be in contention to feature against Cagliari on Sunday, more so because of Joshua Zirkzee’s suspension.

Il Resto del Carlino, relayed by another report from 1000 Cuori Rossoblu, state Bologna manager Thiago Mota could start the Dutchman against Cagliari due to Zirkzee’s absence.

When previewing tomorrow’s clash between the two Italian clubs, Il Resto del Carlino mention Celtic.

They explain that Van Hooijdonk, who is seen as a backup for Zirkzee, is ‘considered to be leaving’ due to Celtic’s interest.

Van Hooijdonk has scored one goal and failed to register an assist from 10 games this season.
