Portuguese newspaper A Bola today shares another update on Newcastle United’s pursuit for Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Following new reports from England saying the Magpies are focusing on the signing of Manchester United’s Dean Henderson and have the Dragons’ player as an alternative, the outlet comes up to say their second option isn’t affordable either.
A Bola writes Newcastle are already aware that Porto have been pointing to Costa’s release clause, which stands at €60m.
The Portuguese club did suggest they would be ready to lower their demands, but never below €40m.
The newspaper then says this price is considered to be ‘too expensive’ for Newcastle, despite the big investments the Magpies are set to make this summer.
The report points out Diogo Costa has been seeing his price going up ‘like an arrow’ following his season with Porto and is now ‘wanted in the Premier League’.
So even though Newcastle may have the money to buy whatever goalkeeper they want, they should know Costa isn’t just a cheap alternative.
