Ajax are said to be interested in Aston Villa’s Lamare Bogarde, and these claims initially emerged in the UK.

The 21-year-old is with the Netherlands U21s for the ongoing international break and has been speaking to the Dutch media.

Three days ago, the Aston Villa player told Voetbal International that he’s aware of the Ajax links and is flattered.

Algemeen Dagblad had a chat with the defender and asked him about claims of the Dutch club’s interest.

Bogarde has now confirmed the Amsterdam club are indeed interested and they have also contacted his agent.

“It’s true. There is interest. I haven’t been called, but my agent has,” he said.

The Dutchman joined the Premier League club’s youth team from Feyenoord in 2020 and made his first team debut a year later. The Villans sent him on loan to Bristol Rovers from January 2023 to last summer.

Since returning to Villa Park, Bogarde has been part of Unai Emery’s plans and played 869 minutes from 16 games this season.

After revealing the Eredivisie side’s transfer approach, he also confirmed that Aston Villa want to renew his contract. There’s been discussions over a renewal, but the versatile player is yet to make a decision.

“There have been talks, yes. Or will I sign a new contract? We’ll see,” Bogarde explained.
