Manchester United goalkeeper Joel Pereira may not get much attention in England, but the Portuguese press continue to publish a steady stream of articles.
The player has spoken to Sportv to talk about the end of the season, and the outlet couldn’t miss the chance to ask the chances of him signing for Benfica.
Pereira has been pinpointed by the Portuguese newspapers as one of the Eagles’ favourite names to replace Ederson, in case the goalkeeper is sold to a Premier League club this summer.
But the Manchester United youngster wasn’t really keen on teasing about a transfer, and claimed it’s the club that will decide whether he should leave or not.
“I have one more year of contract with Manchester and for now I’m only thinking of the national team, then I’ll return to my club to make the pre-season,” Pereira told Sportv (via O Jogo).
Asked about Benfica, he answered: “I have a contract with Manchester United.”
Then he replied regarding a loan: “It’s the manager who decides, I will have to speak to him about the plans he has for me.”
The goalkeeper also confirmed there was an “approach to renew” his contract, and claimed that his “agents are taking care of his situation”.
Pereira was supposed to spend an year on a loan spell at Belenenses, but was called back by José Mourinho to be part of the squad in January.
