Bayer Leverkusen star Lucas Alario has confirmed that Leeds United tried to bring him to the Premier League in the last transfer window.
The striker was interviewed by Argentine outlet TyC Sports this week, and when quizzed if he had the chance to join Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road, he said there was interest.
“I had no contact nor did I speak with Marcelo. I know about the rumour because my representative told me, but it was only an approach,” Lucas Alario told TyC Sports.
“They asked my representative and then the club, but then it didn’t advance much further.”
Alario wasn’t heavily linked to Leeds United in the summer window, despite a few stories coming from here and there.
There were actually more claims regarding interest from Tottenham Hotspur, and last week, his agent confirmed that José Mourinho’s side tried to sign him on a loan deal. In fact, his agent has been claiming that Spurs are chasing Alario for quite a few years now.
Lucas Alario joined Bayer Leverkusen in a €24m deal in 2017. He has 43 goals in 106 appearances for the club, and started this season pretty well, scoring seven times in eight games.
