Despite all efforts made by Tallares to sign Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass, it seems the Argentine side won’t be able to land the player this time.

According to a report from journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, the 28-year-old ‘will not play’ for the South American side.

It’s said Tallares did ‘everything’ they could to bring him to Argentina, but Sheffield Wednesday refused to cooperate.

Merlo even quotes Windass speaking about the collapsed move, with the player saying: “I was delighted with the interest from Argentina, being the first English player in the league would have been something special and something I don’t rule out in the near future.”

Tallares’ attempt to sign Windass had been reported by the Argentine media for a few weeks. The very same Cesar Luis Merlo previously claimed that Sheffield Wednesday had turned down two bids for the player already.

It was repeatedly said the attacking midfielder was keen on making the move to Argentina. Given he’s now confirmed that himself, it was only the lack of agreement between the clubs that stopped a deal going through.

Windass’ deal with Sheffield Wednesday runs until 2023, and it would be no surprise if there’s soon claims he’ll consider the move again as his contract runs down.
