Having arrived at Elland Road from Sampdoria in 2014, Gaetano Berardi’s spell with Leeds United came to an end last season.

The 32-year-old is without a club now and his current situation has caught attention of Serie B side SPAL.

That’s what Il Resto del Carlino are reporting and they add the right-back is included in the Italian club’s sporting director’s ‘notebook’.

The Swiss defender has ‘released himself from Marcelo Bielsa’s company’ and is ‘ready to return to Italy’, where he had spells with Brescia and Sampdoria in the past.

A serious injury forced the full-back to spend majority of the last season on the sidelines and after regaining full fitness, he made two appearances for Leeds.

Berardi made his Premier League debut against Southampton in the penultimate match of the previous campaign and made another appearance against West Bromwich Albion.

SPAL have him on their ‘notebook’ for this summer and time should tell if the Italian club can convince Berardi to join them in the coming months.
