Southampton’s Manolo Gabbiadini is now closer to joining Sampdoria, if a report from Sky Sport in Italy is to be believed.

It ‘s explained the Serie A outfit have been in contact with the Saints and the 27-year-old’s entourage in the past few days.

The Blucerchiati’s president Massimo Ferrero has now decided to accelerate his side’s efforts in bringing the frontman back to the club.

Initially, the idea of securing the services of the Italy international for Sampdoria depended on one of Grégoire Defrel or Gianluca Caprari leaving.

However, their strategy has now changed as Gabbiadini’s arrival is now linked to Dawid Kownacki’s exit.

The report mentions that Fortuna Dusseldorf are in pole position for the Polish striker and once he leaves, it will then allow Marco Giampaolo’s side to bring the Southampton attacker to the club.

It will be a one in (Gabbiadini) and one out (Kownacki) at the Italian club in the ongoing transfer window.

Sampdoria are ready to pay €12m to secure Gabbiadini’s signature and their formula is to take him on loan with an obligation to sign in the summer.
