Leeds United are facing late competition from French side Nice for striker Bamba Dieng on deadline day.
That’s according to journalist Alexandre Jacquin, who says the player is ‘closer than ever’ to Elland Road but nothing is definitely done at this stage.
Leeds have made a late bid to sign Dieng today, looking to add a striker to Jesse Marsch’s squad as Patrick Bamford continues to struggle with injury issues.
It appeared that a deal was edging closer, with reports in France making it clear that Leeds were pushing, and Marseille were more than happy to sell.
That is still progressing according to Jacquin, who says the player is ‘closer than ever’ to moving to Elland Road but is not ‘definitely done’ at this moment in time.
He says that some sources are now talking of a last-minute ‘come-back’ from Nice, who were the Senegalese forward’s preferred destination until a few days ago.
The hint is that if they are serious once again, they could turn Dieng’s head, and potentially scupper Leeds’ efforts for him.
