When you’re a 35-year-old goalkeeper from Eibar, having spent your entire career in La Liga, you can’t really expect big events in your career.
But things can get to a new level for Asier Riesgo, who according to local reports, is close to accepting an offer from Premier League champions Manchester City.
Diario Vasco claims the player is ‘one step from saying yes’ and ‘taking an opportunity he never dreamed of having’.
Riesgo was a little unsure at first because of his family, but the outlet claims he’s getting support to move to England and join Pep Guardiola’s side.
Leaving Eibar was also said to be weighing heavily on Riesgo’s decision, but the La Liga club has also been supportive so he can take this opportunity.
Diario Vasco writes that Riesgo’s signing was suggested by Manchester City goalkeeping coach Xabier Mancisidor, and then analysed by assistant manager Mikel Arteta. The player is expected to join the squad to offer the other goalkeepers more experience.
The report claims that the English side has been ‘accelerating’ for the signing, since they will soon start the preseason. So Riesgo must be quick to take the offer and make an unexpected change late in his career.
