Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is ‘very close’ to leaving for Tottenham on a season-long loan deal.

That’s according to RAC 1 and Mundo Deportivo, who say ‘much progress’ is being made on a deal for the Frenchman to join Antonio Conte’s squad.

Lenglet is one of the players Barcelona want to move on this summer in order to raise funds and bring down their wage bill, with manager Xavi having told him to ‘look for a way out’ weeks ago.

The potential transfer has been pending, with Tottenham left waiting for the defender to make a decision on his next club.

That was something they were growing frustrated by and a report yesterday indicated they had given Lenglet an ultimatum before looking at other options.

It seems that worked, though, with RAC 1 reporting that Lenglet is now ‘very close’ to leaving for Spurs, and progress has been made on a deal. According to them, they are the option that has ‘more face’ for the player.

Mundo back this up, stating Lenglet has ‘already made’ his mind up and now has a ‘good chance’ of joining Tottenham.

He’s now waiting for Barcelona to strike a deal with Spurs but is ‘looking forward’ to playing in London next year under Conte’s leadership.

The Catalans would prefer a permanent exit, but the ‘most feasible option’ is that he leaves on loan, and unless a better proposal comes along in the next few days, he is set ‘to join Tottenham’.
