Aston Villa showed serious interest in Sevilla’s Loïc Badé and were chasing him for most of the winter market.

The Villans held talks with the La Liga side and came close to reaching an agreement for the transfer. This was confirmed by Sevilla president José María del Nido Carrasco last month.

He also said the transfer didn’t go through because the centre-back snubbed Aston Villa.

Mucho Deporte have had a chat with the 24-year-old to find out his thoughts on rejecting the Premier League club.

The former Nottingham Forest man is of the belief he can make progress in his career at the Andalusian club, and this convinced him to continue at Sevilla.

“I feel very good here. The most important thing is to progress, and I think I can progress with this team and with this coach. It’s what I want and that’s why I’ve chosen to stay here,” he said.

The Frenchman held talks with Unai Emery and Aston Villa director Monchi over a move to Villa Park. The English club’s officials weren’t able to change his mind, and he claims they ‘understood’ his situation.

“They understood my situation and what I think. We talked and in the end I said that I wanted to stay here,” Badé explained.

“I have the ambition to do good things with Sevilla and I wanted to play here, I want to have good seasons. That’s why I’ve chosen to stay.”

According to Mucho Deporte, the defender doesn’t regret rejecting offers from the Villans and other clubs like AS Roma and VfB Stuttgart.

“No, no, in the end it’s me who chooses. At the moment, I want to stay. Afterwards, of course, when there is a club coming, you have to think about it too,” he added.

“But my main objective is to stay here, play and be with the team as high as possible. I don’t think about things that can happen. My goal now is to stay, I see what comes and then everyone knows what happens in football.”

Aston Villa strengthened their centre-back position by signing Axel Disasi on loan from Chelsea on winter deadline day.
