Earlier today we covered reports from Portugal which explained Chelsea were about to make a second offer to Manuel Ugarte.
The London club have been prepared to pay more than his €60m release clause, the only way Sporting would agree to sell the midfielder. However, PSG were also willing to pay the same and had offered Ugarte a significantly higher salary package than the Premier League side.
Chelsea were set to return with a fresh wage offer, and whilst it was still going to be less than the French club had put on the table, there were hints it could be successful.
That’s because Ugarte favours a move to English football, and it appears that desire has worked in Chelsea’s favour.
On Saturday evening, Record report Ugarte has now chosen to join Chelsea. The Portuguese newspaper says the ‘deal is closed’ and they treat it as a certainty.
Given that, an announcement is presumably on the way.
As we covered earlier today, the PSG salary offer was €5m and Chelsea’s improved offer stood at €3.5m, with both figures likely after tax.
Chelsea have not only beaten PSG to this signing, but also multiple other Premier League clubs who had been keen in recent months.
