Back in February, Bertrand Traoré ended his time at Aston Villa after the parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

This allowed Villarreal to sign the winger on a short-term deal in the winter market, and he made 11 appearances for the La Liga side, scoring a goal in the process.

Two days ago, the former Aston Villa winger joined Ajax on a free transfer, and this gets coverage in Wednesday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.

It’s claimed the Yellow Submarine were keen on extending the 28-year-old’s stay and he had also shown willingness to continue with them.

In fact, the Burkina Faso international had reached an agreement over personal terms and he also had given his approval to the Spanish club last week. Villarreal had to make this deal official, but that didn’t happen because of the Eredivisie side.

Traoré had a loan spell at Ajax during the 2016/17 season and they have been successful in convincing him to return to the club. It’s quite possible the Amsterdam club would have offered a better deal than the one proposed by the Spanish club.

Villarreal are clearly disappointed with the former Aston Villa man’s rejection, more so after agreeing a deal with them.
