Player best and worst memories of Chelsea spell – Not upset at ‘succession of loans’

Brazilian forward Lucas Piazon has insisted he has no ill feeling towards Chelsea for his unsuccessful spell at the club.

Piazon, now playing for AVS Futebol in Portugal, has been speaking to A Bola about his career to date and his spell at Chelsea.

The 30-year-old joined the Blues all the way back in January 2012 from Sao Paulo as a youngster but would never establish himself at Stamford Bridge, making just three appearances in the first team.

Instead, he spent his career with them out on loan, having spells with Malaga, Vitesse, Eintracht Frankfurt, Reading, Fulham, Chievo Verona and Rio Ave before eventually leaving on a free transfer in 2021 and joining SC Braga.

His move to England can largely be seen as a massive failure, having failed to impress anyone at Chelsea in his eight year there or convince the likes of Fulham, where he managed 12 goals and nine assists in 58 games, or Reading.

It seems he has no ill-feeling towards that point in his career, though, and instead feels the ‘succession of loans’ made him a better player in the long run.

“My first game as a professional and my debut in the Premier League were memorable moments. On the other hand, the saddest moment was the loss of the Club World Cup final to Corinthians in Japan, in 2012,” he said.

“Having passed through different countries and playing styles enriched my experience. Each one brought different challenges that required adaptations.

“These experiences helped me to better understand the game and develop a more accurate tactical reading, which I do well, allowing me to quickly adapt to different situations on the field.”
