At the start of the year, we covered reports from Argentina which linked Boca Juniors defender Nicolas Valentini to Aston Villa.
It was said that Unai Emery’s side are interested in the 23-year-old, who could be signed for just US$10m if his release clause was triggered.
Now it turns out that there’s a tense situation going on between Valentini and Boca Juniors, and that’s explained by TyC Sports.
The Argentine club want the player protected by a better contract, and after accepting his conditions, they believed he was about to sign.
Valentini, however, said he’s not taking it. That’s why he’s initially left out of a very important match against Godoy Cruz this week.
It’s claimed that the player’s wish is to get a move to Europe in the summer, and perhaps that’s when Aston Villa could show up to solve the situation.
Valentini reportedly doesn’t want to move for free in December, when his contract expires, as he’d rather leave some money for Boca Juniors.
That sounds like a golden chance for Aston Villa or any other club who want him, as the Buenos Aires side would surely rather take an offer now than lose him for free in a few months.
His situation though is difficult and his banishment is turning into a soap opera, similar to what happened with Valentin Barco… who then moved to Brighton.
