Barcelona failed in their efforts to sign Fabián Ruiz on more than one occasion before he left Real Betis for Napoli in 2018.

The midfielder’s impressive performances for Carlo Ancelotti’s side and Spain have caught the attention of various clubs, including Real Madrid.

Three days ago, AS stated Ernesto Valverde’s side are still looking at the 23-year-old and a day later, reports from Italy explained Manchester City are also observing the player.

Fabián’s current deal with the Serie A side runs down in 2023 and Mundo Deportivo claims Napoli have intensified contacts with his agent to extend his contract and also insert a release clause in excess of €100m.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis opened the door for the Spaniard’s sale in the future after stating, “we found Fabián, who knows how many more players we’re going to find.”

Barca technical secretary Eric Abidal has already watched the player in action against Leece.

Mundo now claims Fabián is ‘aware’ he is ‘one of objectives’ for Barcelona for the 2020/21 season if one of their current midfielders leave the club. He is also aware that Real Madrid are interested in him.
