Barcelona goalkeeper Neto is ‘very attentive’ to the goalkeeper situation at Everton and whether that might be an option for him.
That’s according to Sport, who have him among the players that Barcelona may look to get rid of as they attempt to clear the decks and start again.
The newspaper explains that the Catalan giants are ‘considering a clean-up operation’ as early as January as there is a feeling that they need an ‘extensive remodelling’ so they can plan for the future.
The idea is to start in January with a clean-up operation of at least four or five players to free up money in the budget, particularly the wage bill, to give them the freedom to make signings for new manager Xavi.
While that will largely be focused on big names such as Samuel Umtiti and Philippe Coutinho, but the likes of Neto also fall under the microscope.
He’s the number two at the club behind Ter Stegen and wants to leave the club if he can, something Barca are willing to sanction if there is a suitor.
Everton have been named as an interested party on more than one occasion in the past, and it’s stated that Neto is ‘very attentive’ to what happens with their goalkeeping situation moving forwards.
That is presumably in reference to reports about the future of Jordan Pickford, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham as a replacement for Hugo Lloris in reports in England.
It’s also been stated that Rafa Benitez would be happy to sell him if that is the case.
Neto is seemingly keeping an eye on that situation in case he can work it to his advantage, and Barcelona would be ‘open to listening to proposals’ if they come.
It’s very much ifs and buts at this stage but should those Pickford rumours persist or indeed become anything concrete, expect Neto to be among the names shared as a possible replacement.
