Rayo Vallecano’s Andrei Rațiu has told Spanish newspaper ABC that he isn’t focused on the recent reports linking him to other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur.
The right-back had a mixed debut season since joining the La Liga side from SD Huesca in August 2023.
Rațiu’s situation has improved a lot and he’s become a regular at the club this season. He made 26 appearances, and his performances have seen him linked to Tottenham and a few other clubs.
On March 4th, we covered claims from Spain that Tottenham have lined up a tussle with Barcelona for the 26-year-old. He has a €25m release clause in his contract that expires in 2028.
ABC point out about his clause and then specifically state clubs like Spurs, Barcelona, AS Roma, Atlético Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Atalanta are ‘fighting’ for him.
When asked about these links, he said: “Honestly, I am very focused on Rayo and the national team. We have the objective of staying up, which is not yet a reality. Look at what happened to Las Palmas last year.”
Rayo Vallecano are eight in the table with 36 points from 27 games. ABC inform him to not ‘beat around the bush’.
They also tell the Romania international he’s a ‘fashionable’ fullback and his €25m release clause is a ‘bargain’. However, the Tottenham target thinks otherwise.
“For me, €25m is a lot of money… First, we will have to see if there are offers, but I have always liked La Liga and I want to continue playing here,” Rațiu explained.
When asked if this favours Spanish clubs and if he talks about this with his family, Rațiu added: “No. Besides, my father is a Steaua fan, my mother only watches my games, she doesn’t care about the team, and my brother, although he is a bit of a Barca fan, doesn’t influence my decisions.”
