Manchester City are looking to sign a new left-back this summer after allowing Oleksandr Zinchenko complete a move to Arsenal earlier this month.
The Premier League winners’ first choice target is Marc Cucurella and they have reportedly made an offer to sign him.
Manchester City’s €35m proposal has not convinced Brighton & Hove Albion, with the latter demanding around €50m for the Spaniard.
In their Friday edition, Sport explain the Citizens are not willing to pay this figure for Cucurella, who is ‘very much’ liked by Pep Guardiola.
This has forced Manchester City to look elsewhere and Benfica’s Álex Grimaldo has ended up in their orbit.
It’s said the Portuguese club would be ‘more willing to negotiate a sale’ due to the 26-year-old’s contract expiring in less than 12 months. This circumstance could ‘significantly lower the cost’ of the transfer.
This is something Manchester City would see with good eyes, especially because Grimaldo would fit very well at the Etihad, considering his age, profile, experience and his past connection with Barcelona.
Therefore, Sport explain the option to sign Grimaldo ‘appears as the most feasible’ for the English champions.
