Signed by OGC Nice for less than £1m, Kasper Schmeichel’s time in the south of France following his Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City exit hasn’t gone that well.
L’Equipe made that clear when they stated he was, so far, having a ‘haunted season’, at fault for some of the goals conceded by his side.
Well, it appears Lucien Favre, his manager, has had enough, with RMC Sport reporting that the Dane is now expected to be dropped for Nice’s Conference League game against FC Köln.
Instead, it’s Marcin Bulka, who many expected to be the starter this season before they brought in Schmeichel from Leicester, who will be between the sticks.
Nice spent €2m on the Polish goalkeeper, and Favre previously admitted a rotation between him and the Denmark international was ‘possible’.
However, the fact the veteran had started every game since arriving from Leicester had pushed that thought to one side, until he started playing badly.
Perhaps this is just the kick in the backside he needs after some complacency following a number of years as the starter at King Power Stadium?
