On Tuesday Marca published a brief article on their website claiming Gonzalo Higuain has agreed to to join Chelsea and a transfer could be completed soon.

Significantly, they’ve also included the story in their Wednesday paper edition, so it’s not just a throwaway rumour. On top of that, the claims come from Jose Feliz Diaz, one of the newspaper’s best known and most senior reporters.

It’s explained Higuain ‘has already said yes’ to joining the Premier League club and a deal could be done ‘in the coming hours’.

Given the first claims were on Tuesday, that ‘coming hours’ probably needs some flexibility, as is often the case in Spain.

Milan are struggling with Higuain’s wages, with the player on loan from Juventus, and would further struggle to make the deal permanent for €40m in the summer, whereas it’s thought Chelsea wouldn’t.

The Argentine arriving would make it easier for Morata to leave, and, although Marca don’t state this, it may make a move to Milan likelier for the Chelsea player, rather than Sevilla.

Maybe this could develop to Morata going to Milan on loan, and then a deal being done with Juventus in the summer which would see the striker return to Turin in exchange for Higuain plus money or a player.

It can’t be long before Daniele Rugani is pulled in.
